Last night, Carol and I attended an amazing John Fogerty Concert at the Beacon Theater in NYC. While there I realized it was exactly 35 years ago to the day (November 24, 1974) that the Sgt. Pepper Musical opened up at the Beacon, and John Lennon was there to lend his support. I was also invited to attend the premier and it was there that I got to personally thank John for helping to make Beatlefest 74 possible (2 months earlier). I also was able to tell him how the event went and how exciting it was. It was a very special evening indeed!
History notes that today (Nov. 25, 1968) The Beatles (White Album) was released in the U.S., however my memory is quite clear that I purchased it on the 22nd. The mystery of the real release may never be resolved, but what is clear is that one of the greatest albums of all time was released in 1968 – 30 songs, 2 albums, so varied, yet so tied together. Go listen to it today and see how fresh it sounds, especially in the new remastered version.
We wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Peace and Love, The Lapidos Family
i thought it was the 22nd as well Mark. I think I heard that on NPR eleven years ago when it was 30th anniversary and there was a re-release.
I too remember and have the playbill
I recall the lead in the play had broken his leg and the understudy did a great job.
I also remember “Beatlemania” at the Winter Garden and have the playbill (I saw the previews and opening night)
I also recently had a GREAT EXPERIENCE –
-the Last year at Shea- I obtained tickets to a Met Game in August and by luck “1964” was there celebrating the anniversary of the Beatles 1st concert there. While my son went down to field in the 7th innning, I went to speak to Paul only to find out he was as giddy as hell over playing Shea. I shared my awe at his ability to not only learn to play the bass lefty (he is really a natural righty)he had Paul’s ability to play riffs while singing!!!as well. Comparing notes, we realized my family had seen 1964 the previous Feb at their annual concert celebrating the Beatles first concert. After taking some pictures together, he gave me his pick and I promised we would see this past Feb which we did!A great guy!
Is that really all there is to it because that’d be flabbegratisng.
