Legendary Singer-Songwriter
In Concert & Meditation TalkIt is a great honour to welcome back the legendary Donovan to our stage for this historic anniversary. After meeting the Beatles in 1965, he rapidly became part of their inner circle - regarded as a close friend and musical peer - scoring 14 major worldwide chart hits. In 1968, he accompanied the Beatles on their spiritual quest to India. While there he shared his guitar technique with John, Paul and George *as manifested in such Beatles recordings later that year as "Dear Prudence", " Mother Nature's Son" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". In April 2009, he reunited with Paul & Ringo at a TM fundraiser in NYC. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, Donovan continues to be a potent musical force - creating fresh music such as his brand-new album "Shadows Of Blue," recorded in Nashville. Donovan will be joining us all weekend, for a talk "Meditation and the White Album", performing in concert on Saturday afternoon, and joining Liverpool on stage for more musical highlights on both Saturday and Sunday evenings. Some of his classics you can expect to hear are "Mellow Yellow", "Sunshine Superman", "Hurdy Gurdy Man", and "Atlantis". Photo Credit: Michael Collopy. Billy J. Kramer
British Invasion and Liverpool Legend
Billy J. is a living legend from the British Invasion of 1964 led by The Beatles, of course. It is always an honor to have Billy join us at THE FEST. In 2014, Billy released To Liverpool With Love, a song protesting Brian Epstein's absence from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Five years later, Brian got in. We do think his song had a bit to do with it and we thank him for it. Billy will be on hand all weekend, talking about his storied history, signing books, albums, photos and jamming with Liverpool during their nightly concerts.

Chris O'Dell
Worked at Apple, was at Rooftop Concert
Chris O'Dell The former Apple secretary and one of rock’s first female tour managers, was in the studio when the Beatles recorded The White Album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be, and sang on the chorus of the final cut for “Hey Jude.” Chris worked at Apple Records and was at the historic Rooftop Concert on Jan. 30, 1969. At the Fest, the documentary on the life and career of Chris, titled "Miss O'Dell," will be screened. She’s George Harrison’s “Miss O’Dell”, the famous B-side to “Give Me Love,” his No.1 single from 1973. Chris' memoir from 2010, Miss O'Dell, is the remarkable story of an ordinary woman who became a part of rock royalty’s trusted inner circle. Miss O’Dell is a backstage pass to some of the most momentous events in rock history, and is the ultimate fly-on-the-wall rock memoir. We look forward to welcoming Chris back to The FEST.

Blac Rabbit
In Concert on Saturday and Sunday
Consisting of identical twin brothers Amiri and Rahiem Taylor, drummer Patrick Jones, bassist/guitarist Josh Lugo, and Justin Jagbir (keys), Blac Rabbit -- who made their Fest debut in 2018 before their appearance on The Ellen Degeneres show -- will be in concert on the main stage on Saturday and the Apple Jam stage on Sunday. The guys will also be joining Liverpool during the jam at Saturday night's concert. Amiri and Rahiem taught themselves how to play guitar and write songs based on The Beatles. They later formed Blac Rabbit. Tired of working boring grocery store jobs, Amiri and Rah started performing Beatles covers on the NYC subway, slowly building a reputation around the city while also performing their original material with the full band in New York's best venues for up and coming acts. On December 23rd, 2017, the band released their debut self-titled EP, which was also self recorded and self mixed. The Taylor twins wrote all of the songs, and recorded every instrument on the EP, except for a few songs on which Jones played drums. In January of 2018, Rah and Amiri were filmed performing Beatles songs on the train. One of the videos went viral, generating over 25M streams, leading to numerous TV and radio appearances, including The Ellen Degeneres Show. The band also recorded a cover of “Michelle” by the The Beatles for a Gucci ad campaign featuring Harry Styles. Meanwhile Blac Rabbit has been touring globally and recording their debut full length album titled “Interstella,” set for release in spring 2019. The first single from the album, "Seize the Day" was released on November 19th, 2018 while the band was on their first European tour.

Jeff Slate's Birds of ParadoxIn Concert
Jeff Slate's Birds of Paradox
In Concert
February 2nd UPDATE: The Orbison Boys to appear at upcoming FEST. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Traveling Wilburys -- George Harrison's supergroup with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison -- Jeff Slate's Birds of Paradox will mark their fifth Fest appearance by joining forces with Roy's Boys, the late-Roy Orbison's sons, Roy Jr., Wesley and Alex Orbison. After past performances spotlighting Wings' Back To The Egg album and John Lennon's One To One concert, featuring members of Wings, the Plastic Ono Elephant's memory Band and Ringo's All-Starr Band, brought down the house, frontman Jeff Slate -- who attended his first Fest in 1979 -- knew he had to deliver something special. And since he'd teamed up with Roy Jr., Wesley and Alex Orbison on The Authorized Roy Orbison, the first estate sanctioned biography of the rock and roll legend, and with the release of The Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 looming, it was only natural to treat fans at this year's Fest with a supergroup featuring Roy Orbisons sons and musicians who have shared the stage and recorded with everyone from David Bowie to Roy Orbison himself. Birds of Paradox and Roy's Boys will present their show, Weekend Wilburys, on Saturday afternoon (around 2PM), and will be meeting fans afterwards, signing copies of their new book, CDs and other items. Jeff and Roy’s Boys will have a talk about their father’s close ties with The Beatles with a Q & A to follow. Alex will also be a part of our Drum Symposiums, headed by Modern Drummer’s Billy Amendola. We are thrilled and honored to welcome Roy’s Boys to their first FEST. They will be joining us all day Saturday and through late Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned for more information on their appearance in the upcoming weeks. Appearing in concert, Birds of Paradox is local artist Jeff Slate's band. You may have seen Jeff's name in a piece he wrote included in the Super Deluxe Sgt. Pepper release earlier this year. He is also a contributing editor to Beatlefan. We will be announcing his line up shortly, but we can tell you they will be doing a tribute to the Traveling Wilburys for a number of reasons - one being the recent passing of Tom Petty. Stay tuned. This is their fifth appearance at the New York Metro Fest, and we're thrilled to have them back!

Andrew Weiss & FriendsIn Concert
Andrew Weiss & Friends
In Concert
Self-taught on the many instruments he knows how to play, Weiss’s journey sprouted from early exposure to The Beatles, which recently came full circle after a spontaneous run-in and 20 minute conversation with Paul McCartney. He began picking guitar and writing songs at only seven years old, and he would later play in various bands throughout his youth. During his time at NYU, where he studied Music Theory & Composition, Weiss wrote music for films and various ensembles. His High Fascination work also continued there, and he eventually discovered a group of musicians to join him. Four more albums were released during Weiss’s time in college, before the musical style soon shifted to a more Americana-driven approach, or “Power Pop-icana” as Weiss likes to call it. High Fascination ultimately folded to make way for a new project, as a brand new circle of friends and musicians emerged — Andrew Weiss and Friends was born.

On the Apple Jam stage
Annie Trezza is a singer-songwriter based out of Montauk, NY. Her love and passion for fine songwriting shows upon first listening. From the age of 6 years old she was singing along to every Beatles song and by age 15 knew all of the lyrics to many a Bob Dylan tunes. Growing up in a church allowed for the sounds of Gospel to influence and run through and through from a young age. Folky, surfy, soul filled sounds pair perfectly w/ her unique raspy voice and groovy guitar riffs. Her lyrics are inspired by heartaches, The Ocean, surfing, travels, loves lost and found, and Life itself. She recently had the opportunity of having not one, but Three original songs in neo-western thriller, The Last Victim. (Directed by Naveen A. Chathapuram and available to stream on Hulu). Her EP Blue Suitcase #2 was released in December 2019. Her second EP titled Something, Nothing was recorded at the world class Bear Creek Studios w/ producer Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Brandi Carlile, Vance Joy) and was released in 2022.

Debbie Gendler
Author of I Saw Them Standing There
The Beatles first caught Debbie’s interest in April 1963 when family friends brought her from the UK a copy of the group’s top selling album, Please Please Me. It was love at first sight and she wrote a letter to the English Beatles’ Fan Club in hopes of connecting with other fans as her American friends had not yet fallen for the Beatles uniqueness. In late October 1963, Debbie received a telegram inviting her to meet with Brian Epstein and his New York City based associates to establish a Fan Club in the U.S. After learning at the meeting that Debbie was just 13 years old, Epstein did not offer her a job, but instead Debbie was given an invitation that would define her life--a ticket to the Beatles' first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964. That show was the first of Debbie’s many extraordinary experiences associated with the Beatles over the decades.Debbie has been interviewed about the Beatles by the BBC News and for its film Beatlemania along with the documentary The Making of A Hard Day’s Night and featured in reports on CNN, ABC World News Tonight, NBC, CBS Evening News and many local television shows and radio stations culminating in a front page story in the New York Times. Professionally, Debbie who has received three Emmy nominations has been an executive at CBS in New York and Los Angeles and on shows for ABC, NBC, Food Network, HGTV, A&E, History Channel, Discovery Channel and CNN to name a few. She also helped launch the National Geographic Channel in the U.S. and started the careers of many of today’s well-known TV hosts and experts, including Tyler Florence, Sprinkles’ Candace Nelson, Mike Rowe and others. Author of Top of the Mountain: The Beatles at Shea Stadium 1965
In August 1965, during a sweltering heatwave, 56,000 people traveled by plane, car, bus, ferry, and subway train to pack New York's Shea Stadium on a Sunday evening—not for a baseball game, but for a rock and roll concert. This idea was the crazy dream of concert promoter Sid Bernstein. No rock band had ever played a baseball stadium, and no one believed he could pull it off. But on that glorious night, The Beatles sold out Shea Stadium, shattering all existing box office and attendance records in show business history. Oh, and they also changed the world. Against the backdrop of a remarkably volatile year in our nation's history, Top of the Mountain: The Beatles at Shea Stadium, 1965 delivers all the detail and excitement of Shea and the spirited, curious new generation who would soon claim the decade for its own. Told through first-person interviews and quotes, a unique cast of characters tells the story: celebrities then and celebrities now, writers, agents, producers, photographers, opening act performers, fans, security guards, radio personalities, cameramen, and media—all of whom were part of the night. Caryn Johnson (Whoopi Goldberg) and Steven Lento (Little Steven Van Zandt); future Beatle wives Linda Eastman and Barbara Bach; established stars like Bobby Vinton and Ed Sullivan; and artists hoping one day to equal this success, such as Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Felix Cavaliere and The Rascals, Marvin Gaye, and more share their memories of this remarkable night in Top of the Mountain.

Peter AsherOf Peter & Gordon
Peter Asher
Of Peter & Gordon
We first came to know him in 1964 through the Paul McCartney penned #1 global smash “World Without Love” as the harmony half of Peter & Gordon. Now, the two-time Grammy Winner for Producer of the Year, head of A & R for The Beatles' Apple Records, and long-time manager and producer of James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt returns to the New York Metro Fest For Beatles Fans with a two-part presentation of “Peter Asher: A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond”. Peter was last at the New York Fest with Jeremy Clyde in 2018, and with Chad & Jeremy in 2016, so this year's visit, with part one on Saturday, and part two on Sunday, marks the first New York Metro Fest presentation of his acclaimed "Memoir" show since the Grand Hyatt in 2014. "Memoir" has evolved considerably since then, with newly discovered pictures and video, so settle in for great songs and stories, since, as the Wall Street Journal says, "the exuberant Mr. Asher knew anyone who rocked and everyone who mattered.”
Peter will be participating in at least one signing session on Friday and two signings on both Saturday and Sunday. Exact times will be posted on our site a week before the FEST and in our program booklet. -

Peter is an international star, having appeared on every major TV show of the time, two Broadway shows, hosted VH1 shows for four years and three PBS Specials on The British Invasion. Peter now has a weekly radio show on Sirius/XM 60s on 6 called Something Good with Peter Noone. Richard Blakely
Author of The Secret of the Mantras
Richard Blakely, an American living in Paris during the Vietnam War, attended the "teacher-training course" conducted by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his ashram in Rishikesh in the spring of 1968. This was the same three-month course attended by the Beatles and a number of other celebrities. Blakely was keeping a daily journal at the time and later wrote The Secret of the Mantras, based extensively on notes from those journals and containing several glimpses of the wizard behind the curtain. After the course in India, Blakely returned to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a PhD in French in 1974. He went on to teach at Brown University, the University of Rhode Island, and two universities in France. He is now retired and lives in Providence and Cap Ferret. He has recently completed a novel called Trishula Man which is awaiting publication. He met Jenny Boyd in Rishikesh and they remain friends to this day. Richard will join Jenny on the main stage on Saturday to reminisce about their time in Rishikesh with The Beatles. He will also have a book-reading session in the FABoratory.

Shyamasundar dasAuthor of Chasing Rhinos With The Swami
Shyamasundar das
Author of Chasing Rhinos With The Swami
Over the past 60 years, nearly every aspect of the Beatles’ collective and individual lives has been explored in great detail. But what about the Hare Krishnas? Till now, no one has chronicled Bhaktivedanta Swami and the Krishna devotees’ profound and enduring impact on the Fab Four! What about elementary penguins, Here Comes The Sun, Give Peace A Chance, Instant Karma, My Sweet Lord, Give Me Love, and another dozen of George’s songs? Rocketed into the stratosphere of magic, fame and fortune, the Boys asked, “Why me, Lord? Who am I? What’s the purpose of life? Where am I going?” From 1968 onwards, the London-based Krishna people lived in the Beatles’ orbit, feeding them spiritual information that subtly shaped their world-views and many of their greatest songs. Chasing Rhinos With The Swami, Shyamasundar Das’s three-volume masterpiece, fills this huge and important missing gap in the Beatles’ vast biography. In 1,400 pages and with 108 never-seen-before Beatles/Krishnas photos, Shyamasundar describes in eye-witness detail the Krishna devotees’ massive influence on the world’s most famous band.
