Big Day in Beatles History, 1961

NOVEMBER 9, 1961, LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND: NEMS Store Manager Brian Epstein and assistant Alistair Taylor (many times a special guest at our FESTS) decide to check out what all the excitement was at The Cavern Club, just a short walk from the store. It was a lunchtime concert and The Beatles were playing. When Brian saw and heard them, he had a vision and had to become their manager to get them to the ‘toppermost of the poppermost’! He promised he would get them a recording contract and refused to take no for an answer, finally getting a receptive George Martin to give them a go, after being rejected by every other record company. Guitar groups are out!, was the most famous rejection, from Decca. I would rank this as the number two most important early moment in Beatles history, just behind July 6, 1957, the Day John met Paul. It is incomprehensible that Brian Epstein hasn’t yet been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This needs to be remedied. If you want to sign a petition to have him inducted, CLICK HERE.

  1. It is unbelievable that the man responsible for the most successful musical group in the history of the world has not been recognized for his contribution to rock music. If Brian Epstein does not belong in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame then the Hall should close it’s doors for lack of credibility.

  2. Brian Epstein should of course be inducted because, after all, without his shrewdness we would never have the Beatles in the first place. It is sad that he is no longer with us!!

  3. It is a crime that Brian Epstein is not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Without him the Beatles would not have never left liverpool. They would have never blessed the world with there fantastic talents

  4. What do you do after you sign the petition at BrianEpstein.com..?
Well, after we saw how it performed miracles for Betty White and Conan O’Brien, we decided it wouldn’t hurt to try the Facebook page thingy for Eppy. The more people we get to sign up, the better it might work!
