55 Years Ago: The Day John Met Paul

Saturday, July 6, 1957: Woolton Church Fete, Liverpool, England. Little did anyone know, but this afternoon’s performance by a group called The Quarrymen headed by a 16 year old John Lennon would be the catalyst that would shake the world forever. After the performance, a mutual friend Ivan Vaughan introduced John to a 15 year old Paul McCartney and the magic began. To think of all the music and love The Beatles gave to the world all started 55 years ago today.

  1. I was 5 y/o growing up in NYC when this shot was taken. Little did I know that after becoming a huge Beatles’ fan in 64, although I never got to see them together live (except on Ed Sullivan),or get to meet or talk to any of them in person, I would have the unbelievable thrill & pleasure of befriending some of John’s ol’ bandmates when I saw The Quarrymen at the Metro’s Beatlefest in 2007. Not only that, but I was invited to be their guest bass player & perform with them for their 2 shows. Thank you Rod Davis,Len Garry & Colin Hanton ( 3 beautiful souls who were right there 55 years ago with John in this magnificent photo) for giving me something so very special connecting me not only with you lovely lads, but enriching my heart & soul with a link to a man & his bands forever in my life. Happy Anniversary boys !!
    Peace & Love – JB

  2. Its too bad there wasn’t a pic of the audience, might have seen Paul waiting for the show to end so he could be introduced …………………..

  3. Historic meeting!!! The Beatles have meant so much to so many people. Their influence is far-reaching and seemingly eternal, but it all may have never happened without that fateful day in 1957. It had to be an act of God…that’s exactly what it was…A higher power at work to create perhaps the greatest musical act of all-time! And think about this…it almost never happened!!! Ivan had to urge a reluctant Paul to go to the fete. Amazing how fate can change the world!!!

  4. Talk about being in the right place at the right time . And the world was better for it. Who knows how many times they may have passed each other on the streets in Liverpool or taken the same bus . Perhaps sat across each other on that bus . And then …………….
